2011 August DUDE! A real old guy that dances like Fred Astaire, waltzed up to the trash can that I was standing on and plucked 650 greenbacks from my sweaty palm. A twenty-one ounce fish, over six-hundred dollars! Of course Larry the Fishman came in second for the third tourney in a row. He got a nice new boat net for second place, so he can't blame Wendel for leavin' the net in the garage. The Wounded Warrior 50-50 pot is now up to $450.00. Thanks to all who participate. We are planning on having a local Admiral on hand in September along with a few Vets to present our first check to the project. July Had the Red-White-Blue tourney along with the whiting tourney. Not one entrant weighed in all three. Of course Larry the Fishman said he had a big blue at boatside and his pardner, Wendel, missed it with the net. Same old story. Blame it on Wendel. Rolled the Red-White-Blue into the Whiting tourney and gave over $600.00 to one person, Edge. June Tourney A twelve year old!!!!! We had 72 entrants in June fish for the chicken Mcnugget of the sea. Many whiting were brought to the scales, Red Dog, our official Weigh Master Chief, was a slimey mess at the end of the day. Larry "The Fishman" Finch came in second AGAIN! He had a 22 ouncer that was two ounces shy of the twelve year old David Dry's fish. David had a 24 ounce fish that came from the Nassau Sound area. David and his dad, Jeff, were boat fishing. I believe this is the first boat caught fish to win the tourney ever. Good job Junior Dry. WWP, Wounded Warrior Project - The Big WT Committee has introduced a charity fund raising element to our fair lil' tourney. Each month we will do a 50/50 raffle for cash with half the pot going to the Wounded Warrior Project. We will make the contribution to WWP at the year end tourney. We raised $142 this month for the WWP and our winner of the drawing, Mary, gave $40 back to the fund after winning her $140. Thanks to all who bought tickets.
May Tourney First place took $625.00. Not bad for a 30 ounce fish. I can't remember who won but had that joker paid $5 to be in the calcutta side bet, he would have taken home $230 more, if my memory serves me, which is questionable. Anyway, we had over 70 entrants and the fishing was hot. The Chicken Militia had a Red-White-Blue on their first three fish. A 27 inch red to start the day off. Tatoo Kelly caught it out front of the Lemon Bar in the morning. June Tourney is always well attended. Should be a large pot. Water is green today and the weather is holding. Tell all yer friends to fish. April Tourney Wow, the weather did not cooperate at all but the entrants did!! Good job folks. Just over 50 entries on a very wet and blustery day. After paying the cooker and the cleaner of fish we had $480.00 for first place and another $160.00 in calcutta money. All to one guy, some new guy named Matt Somethingoranother. The joker took off right after he got his payday. Probably headed straight for Mayport Road, to buy oysters of course. The guy weighed in a stud, 28 ounce fish. Bested everybody else, even Larry The Fishman Finch, by better than 10 ounces. May is prime whiting time in our neck of the woods. All entrants need to invite a guest this month. We had a One Thousand dollar pot last year for May. Let's do it again. Don't forget Angie's Subs fisherman deal on Big WT days. Breakfast, Lunch, and ice all for ten bucks. Tell yer friends if you have any.
Last Year July of 2010 is in the bag, kinda like the Yankee lady that GiGi had to throw out before the weigh-in. The Chicken Militia won its first tourney in Oh-Ten. Kelly "Smelly" Stevens weighed in a 28 ounce fish at 4 o'clock. "I wanted to be first in line, first to weigh-in." She was and her stud fish held off a few contenders. The Piranahs had a 26 ouncer, and Spencer and crew had a 24. Larry "The Fishman" showed up at the bell with a cooler full of monsters and Smelly Kelly started to sweat. Larry weighed three fish all within two ounces of Kelly's, but alas her fish held on. Larry took home second prize, which is squat, and Kelly walked with $525 cool ones. Lots of big fish came to the scale for this time of year. Red, White, and Blue is a carry over. No one weighed in all three. $105 will carry over to the August Tourney which will be on the 3rd. Remember, if a team weighs in the Red, White and Blue, all members must be entered in that side bet. It costs Five Dollars to enter that bet. OLD NEWS We just capped of our June Tourney. Another bartender won, which just goes to show ya', well ya know. Chris Jones weighed in a hefty 29.7 ounce fish. I must say this, sorry Mr. Jones but I gotta tell, Chris didn't even know what kinda fish he had. He told me he thought it might be a trout. Can you believe that? Anybody ever see a trout that looked like a whiting? Poor Spencer Brog and his buddy, they weighed in early, had a nice'un. But dang!! A tenth of an ounce shy. Spence in his new Rock Star shades, kinda a cross tween Buddy Holly and Amelia Earhart type shades, weighed in a 29.6 ouncer. A tenth of an ounce shy of $500. Oh well, that's fishin'. Next tourney is July 6th. Red, White, and Blue. Check out the entry on the entry page. If you get a chance, go up to The Ritz, any day of the week will do around Happy Hour, and ask for Red Dog. He is our volunteer weigh master. Buy him a glass of red wine, pat him on the back, thank him for being himself. Remember - Ten bucks gets you an all you can eat fish fry and a shot at the Grand Prize. Get some friends together and fish man, fish!
